FAQ

We provide guests with an SUV packed with camping gear (tent, sleeping bags and pads, cooking utensils, towels and utilities such as lanterns and first aid kits), a cooler with beach gear and a great big map which we will happily walk you through. The rental does not include a camp spot, however we provide you with the contact and booking information for all the available camps sites on island, both state owned and private.
Upon booking with us, we share contact and booking information for all the available campsites on the island, both state/national parks and privately owned. Freedom camping is not permitted on Maui and campsite reservations are essential. We are in touch with all available providers and have up to date information about facilities, availability and closures and can recommend the camp spots that suit your itinerary and comfort level.
There is a lot of conflicting information online about whether you can ‘get away’ with camping wherever you find a secluded spot. We are here to tell you that freedom camping is not an option on Maui. Severe fines and penalties are issued for any visitors found camping outside of a campsite or private property (with permission). We are left with too much trash and damage as a result of overcrowding and improvised camping which is why we urge all our guests to plan your camping spots well in advance. We are here to help put you in touch with those providers so we can take care of you and our island in the best possible way.

Prices are subject to change but generally range $5/night & $75/night depending on the facilities on offer at different campsites (port-a-loos, hot water, wifi etc.).
We are located in Kahului center, a short uber ride from the airport. Our address is 199 Lauo Lp, Kahului, HI 96732-2341 and we are located adjacent to Aloha Rent-a-Car. Look for our Epic Maui Camping billboard.
We understand the convenience of having the vehicle waiting for you at the airport however only the international rental car companies have a license to operate at the airport so we are unable to leave vehicles parked on the premises. The great news is that we are located just a quick 5 minute taxi/uber ride from the Kahului airport for a simple and easy self check-in and self checkout.
Much like a hotel room, the vehicles all go through a rigorous cleaning and maintenance check after every booking. In order for our awesome crew to get this done in a responsible way we have fixed pick-up and drop-off times for our vehicles: Check-in: 15:00 Check-out: 12:00
Yes absolutely! You can book gear for up to four people per booking and can make multiple bookings for larger groups. Contact us for pricing.
The minimum age is 21 with a valid drivers license.
If you reside in North America and have your own person auto insurance just send us a screen shot of that insurance card (we need to see your name and policy #). If you reside outside of North America you’ll need to purchase Collsion & Liability Insurance (aka CDW & SLI). There are many options online but rentalcover.com offers an affordable option. Where can we charge our devices? The car is equipped with usb plugs for phone charging but please bring your own cords! Some campsites offer plug-in charging options
Tickets happen but you are responsible for any ticket incurred while renting our vehicle. Please send us a picture of the ticket and the corresponding payment receipt.
Absolutely yes!!! Although the road is very narrow in spots and your steering wheel is constantly moving this is a part of the island that is a must experience. We have some great suggestions for must-see spots as you make your way to Hana.
Yes!! Please park legally when getting out to explore on foot. Park completely off the road with the direction of traffic and clear of any ‘no parking’ signs. A $235 parking ticket is guaranteed if you break any of these rules. Locals drive this road everyday and very fast so be aware of your surroundings and pull over safely to let people pass. No littering and no trespassing seem like common sense rules but are especially important along the Road to Hana.
Absolutely :) Although all the common sense rules apply, Maui is a very safe place to travel solo. All of your nights will be at campsites so you’ll be surrounded by other campers, families and maybe shocked by how many solo travelers are here doing the same thing. Our vehicles are reliable and constantly checked and serviced and the island is really easy to get around so you have no worries about getting lost. If you’re still unsure we can also connect solo travelers as we always have a few renting at the same time and sometimes it’s nice to grab a coffee and make a friend with another traveler.
Accidents happen but each Xterra has a spare tire under the rear of the vehicle. Under the rear seats is your jack and necessary tools and in the glovebox is the locking nut. If you want to handle it yourself go for it but if you’re not up for the task simply call our 24/7 roadside assistance (number is provided with your insurance in the glovebox) and they’ll send someone directly to you to get it swapped out.
Yes. All of our vehicles have automatic transmissions.

No way!! Car camping needs to be comfortable so we give our guests large comfy memory foam mattresses to use in your tent or in your Xterra to give you that perfect night's sleep.
